About

His Excellency, Senator, Rochas Okorocha

THE BRIEF CITATION OF H.E OWELLE ROCHAS OKOROCHA (OON) “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” – Mahatma Gandhi The above expression by Mahantma Gandhi is a clear description of how His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha (OON) discovered himself. He was lost in the service of the downtrodden and the poorest of the poor in Nigeria: from the North to the South, from the East to the West before he finally discovered himself. Having tasted poverty and lack while growing up, the only prayers in his mouth was: “Oh Lord, bless me, so that I can bless others!” This singular prayer changed his life and today, Senator Rochas Okorocha is one of the foremost Philanthropists that arose from the continent of Africa in the 1980s. With the Rochas Foundation Colleges, which he founded in 1998, His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has impacted on the lives of over 30,000 children from less privileged families in Africa. Today, there are 13 Rochas Foundation Colleges, spread across 13 cities in Nigeria, creating jobs for over 500 academic and non-academic staff who manage these schools. In order to extend the impacts of the Rochas Foundation Colleges across the African continent, he established the Rochas Foundation College of Africa in 2018. Today, at the College, over 500 children from 21 African countries are being accommodates and trained in one of the best schools in Africa with their feeding, clothing, medicals and other logistics taken care of by the Foundation. According to the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Winston Churchill, “we make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.” For giving himself to the poor and needy in the society, His Excellency, Senator Rochas Okorocha found a new life and became a voice for the voiceless. No wonder, he was nicknamed, the “Senior Advocate of the Masses” when he was elected the Governor of Imo State in 2011. As the Governor of Imo State, he introduced several people-oriented policies that endeared him to the masses. Prominent among them were the FREE Education Policy, Community Government Council and the Urban Renewal Program, just to mention a few. During his tenure as Governor, the National Bureau of Statistics adjudged Imo State as the least corrupt state in the Federation because of his pragmatic leadership style. As they say, “the reward for hard work is more work”, His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha was elected into the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, immediately after serving the good people of Imo State as Governor for 8 years. His sojourn into National Politics and the escapades he has made over the years are clear testimonies of this wise word from John C. Maxwell: “people do not care how much you know until they know how much you care.” In Nigerian politics, Senator Rochas Okorocha is a household name, having contested for the highest position in the land, the Presidency for 3 times.
